-------------------------------------------------------------------ROCHDALE is a town in Greater Manchester ,in historical Lancashire England. At the foothills of the Pennine hills, it is 10 miles from Manchester. John Bright the first Quaker to sit in the House of Commons was born here..Also an entertainer from my childhood, Gracie Fields ,born Gracie Stanfield, born above her Grandmas fish and chip shop.9 January 1898, she died on Capri Sept 1979. She was an actress, singer, and comedienne, star of cinema and Music Hall.-------I would say that Rochdale is mainly known for the fact that the Co-operative Movement started here. Rochdale Society of Equitable Pioneers was founded in 1844. The first consumer Co-operative opened at 31 Toad Lane Rochdale England. This started the Rochdale principals the base of Co-opertives around the world. 31 Toad Lane is now a museum well worth a visit.-------Rochdale s on the tram route to Manchester city centre.----ROCHDALE, First Co-op at 31 Toad Lane.

I am unfamiliar with the Co-op Movement. What kind of Co-ops are in the Cooperative Movement?

I ask because here we have things like farmer's co-ops which have produce sales, and milk co-ops where the farmers sell their milk as a group, and an electrical co-op which is a kind of non-profit electric company. I also stayed in a co-op in college (we rented the building from the college and about 45 girls stayed there), and I ate in a co-op (we had about 120 people that all came in for 3 meals a day and we did all the cooking, waiting tables and clean-up).

Hi All these Co-op s are in the same movement .Many the Co=operatives are Supermarkets that are member owned , and if there is a profit it is shared by members. In Switzerland the Co-op is the largest supermarket. in Britain its the fifth in size by trade.---Stay safe.
